Creating a notification channel

Notification channels in StackScout represent different ways in which you can be notified about the incidents. Incidents are created when an alert policy conditions have been breached on a server and you can read more about them on the incidents page in this knowledge base article.

You'll need to create at least one notification channel in order to be able to set up alert policies.

First, visit Alerts section by clicking the bell icon in the main menu on the left.

Then select the Notification channels tab link.

And click the New channel button.

You'll be presented with a modal that requires you to provide the name of the notification channel (you can use something that will let you quickly identify what the channel is, e.g. "Adam's email", or "Slack #alerts") and select the notification channel type from the dropdown.

Depending on the selected notification channel type, one or multiple fields will appear underneath that will let you configure that particular channel. For instance, if you choose a webhook channel type, you'll be required to provide the endpoint URL, and the HTTP method to be used to make a request to that endpoint. (POST or GET)

Once done, click Create. The notification channel list will refresh and you should be able to see the newly created channel.

You can click the three-dot menu button to open a dropdown with additional options:

  • Edit  - allows you to modify the channel details
  • Mute/Unmute - you can temporarily mute a channel (e.g. no notification will be delivered to a channel that's muted)
  • Delete - allows you to remove the hannel permanently

Clicking on the blue Subscriptions button will open a sidebar with a list of alert policies that are connected to a particular notification channel.
