Installing StackScout monitoring agent manually

We strive to make the monitoring agent installation process as simple as possible, but nevertheless it requires a bit of familiarity with the terminal and being able to run commands over SSH connection. (or locally if you're installing StackScout on your own computer) If you don't feel comfortable with that, you can try automatic server installation first.

Prerequisites

In order to get started, you will need to have access to the machines that you wish to install StackScout monitoring agent on using SSH, as well as be able to run sudo commands. (either by providing sudo password, or using a root user)

Installation process

First, head over to Connect servers page by clicking the top right button on the Servers screen, which opens first after you log into StackScout.

Then select Manual installation option.

On the following page you'll be presented with instructions split into several simple steps. The first one is to select the target machine's operating system and architecture from the available options.

Based on that, we'll create a download link to the archive with the monitoring agent program, and generate the instructions for you to paste into the terminal.

Next, you'll need to update the configuration file with your unique API key. You can do this by editing the stackscout.conf file, or pasting the presented commands.

Please keep in mind, the page will provide your actual API key, instead of the [your api key goes here] placeholder from the image above.

Once done, you'll need to install the daemon (so it can run in the background after you log out of the machine) and start it.

And that's it! Clicking View your connected servers button will take you back to the server list page.
